V.III General Updates

Welcome to our V.III Web-Update for the month of June 2008

Formation/ Certification as Catechist in Youth Ministry:

As you all know, formation of leaders is key for successful ministry development.  The stronger the leader, the stronger the ministry will be.  As a Youth Minister you are responsible of your personal formation and certification as well as of your volunteers.  The Archdiocese of Chicago is asking all youth ministers to be certified Catechist of Youth Ministry, to be better prepared to pass on the Faith and our Traditions.  GOOD NEWS!  Now you as well as all of our Vicariate III Youth Ministers will have the greatest opportunity to receive your certificate as Catechist Youth Ministers within one year period.  To be certified as Catechist in Youth Ministry, you need to receive the following formation:

-
1) Intensive Theological Formation as Catechist.  (To be certified as Youth Minister you will need to be certified as Catechist first).  Requirements for Catechist certification in the Archdiocese are the completion of the five courses in sequence as outlined in the Fostering Faith Program.  Each course requires 10 hours of content.  Upon Completion of these requirements the Office of Catechesis and Youth Ministry will present a Certificate to the certified catechist.

o GOOD NEWS!!! ATTEND the Intensive Theological Formation for your certification as Catechist that will be given by the Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry.  It will be a weekly (Every Monday evening) one-year program. By June of 2009 you would be certified as catechist.  This course will be given starting this September at the Vicariate III Youth Ministry Resource Center.  Bring your volunteers.  If you are interested please email me and let me know how many people you will have attending this course.

-
2) Youth Ministry 101 Formation.  This is the final Component for your Archdiocesan Certification as Catechist in Youth Ministry.  It will be required to complete 8 sessions, 2 hours each for a total of 16 hours.  By completing this component plus the Theological formation component, you will be certified as Catechist in Youth Ministry and well on your way for your certification as Coordinator of Youth Ministry.

o GOOD NEWS!!! ATTEND the Youth Ministry 101 Formation course that will be given at our V.III Youth Ministry Resource Center.  The course will be divided into 4 Saturdays, 2 sessions each starting in September.  Let me know if you will be willing to attend this course.
