Special Task Force on Catechesis
The Special Task Force on Catechesis completed its study of
catechesis in the Archdiocese of Chicago on March 4, 2002. The Management Team and
the Task Force Chairs presented Cardinal Francis George with their final recommendations
on March 4th in the document, "The Special Task Force on
Catechesis." Cardinal George was pleased with the catechetical document and
told those present that he intends to follow through with their recommendations. The
document is now available to the public.
The recommendations document is now being translated into
Spanish and Polish so that these communities can be active in the implementation
process. Other ethnic groups will be included in the process also.
Cardinal George began the
implementation process by appointing a Maruja Sedano, director of the Office for
Catechesis, to guide the Archdiocese through the implementation period. As
chairperson, she is putting together a Management Team to help plan each step of the
implementation process. This implementation phase of the project will take a number of
years to complete.
In a commissioning ceremony held at
the Pastoral Center on October 1, the chairs of the sixteen implementation committees were
mandated by Cardinal George to form their committees and begin their work. The
implementation phase will be completed by January, 2006.
