Catechetical
Leader Standards Approved by USCCB
The
USCCB Commission on Certification and Accreditation
has granted official approval of the revised Archdiocesan
Standards and Process for Certification of
Catechetical Leaders. This is a significant
endorsement for the Archdiocese of Chicago and one
that comes after decades of work and refinement
involving thousands of priests, religious and lay
leaders throughout the Archdiocese. |
Alexander
Wroblicky, Coordinator of Certification and
Ministerial Development, was the project manager for
the preparation of Archdiocesan Standards for
presentation to the USCCB. |
During
the mid-1990s, the DECISIONS PROCESS created the Special
Task Force on Catechesis. In 2000, Cardinal Francis George
authorized that Task Force study the state of catechesis
in the Archdiocese. The result was the 2002 Catechetical
Recommendations, to be implemented by the Office for
Catechesis and Youth Ministry. As the implementation
continued, so did the revisions, resulting in the 2005 Guidelines
for Catechetical Leaders, which includes standards for
the certification of directors and coordinators of
religious education for the parish, Catholic schools and
youth ministry. These Guidelines were submitted for review
to the USCCB in January of 2006 after preparation in
consultation with the Certification and Accreditation
Commission
Congratulations
to the Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry and to all
who participated in bringing these Guidelines into being.
