The Office for Catechesis and
Youth Ministry (OFCYM) is the
representative body through which the Archbishop directs the catechetical activities of
the Archdiocese of Chicago. As part of the evangelizing mission of the
Church, OFCYM promotes lifelong catechesis through the formation and
certification of catechists and catechetical leaders, adult faith
formation, elementary-family catechesis, and youth ministry. OFCYM serves
the catechetical leaders and youth ministers in vicariates, deaneries,
clusters, families and other Archdiocesan agencies. OFCYM provides
advocacy, leadership and vision for catechesis and youth ministry in the
Archdiocese through:
 | Programs and resources for the
formation, certification and development of catechists, youth
ministers, and catechetical leaders.
|
 | Analysis of the state of catechesis
and youth ministry in the Archdiocese leading to the design and/or
implementation of appropriate responses.
|
 | Collaboration and networking with
Archdiocesan departments and agencies and other related local and
national organizations.
|
 | Facilitation of widespread use of all
media resources. |

is so basic to the life of every particular Church, that no diocese can be without its own
